Feature-dense countertop RO review

RKIN U1 Review

The most feature-dense countertop RO in this guide: hot and cold dispensing, alkaline remineralization, hydrogen infusion, UV sterilization, and app control. It is also the most expensive, and its certification status is less clear than the AquaTru’s or Waterdrop A1’s.

What the U1 actually is

The U1 is a countertop reverse-osmosis system with a five-stage filtration chain plus an alkaline remineralization post-filter and a hydrogen infusion stage. It dispenses hot water up to 200°F, cold water, and ambient water, and it includes an app for monitoring and control on the U1-W model.

Its certification situation is less straightforward than competitors. Older listings described NSF/ANSI 58 as “in progress,” while current RKIN material says the U1 is third-party tested for TDS, fluoride, lead, PFOA/PFOS, and chromium — but does not always name a specific certifying body or standard number the way AquaTru and Waterdrop do. If certification is a hard requirement, verify the current listing in the IAPMO or WQA directory before buying.

What we liked

The feature list is unmatched in this category. Hot water, cold water, ambient water, alkaline remineralization, hydrogen infusion, UV, and app control in one countertop unit. If you want the maximum number of functions without plumbing, the U1 delivers.

Hot water up to 200°F is genuinely useful. It is hot enough for tea and coffee, and it removes the need for a kettle in a small kitchen.

App monitoring and TDS display remove the guesswork. This is one of the few countertop RO systems with real smart tracking rather than a simple countdown.

What we did not like

Certification is less clear than competitors. The AquaTru and Waterdrop A1 both publish specific NSF/ANSI standard numbers and certifying bodies. The U1’s testing is described in broader language. If certification is a priority, verify before buying.

It is the most expensive system in the top 10. At around $700, it costs significantly more than the Waterdrop A1 ($509) and the AquaTru ($475). You are paying for features, not certification breadth.

More stages and features mean more to maintain. The alkaline and hydrogen stages add replacement cost and complexity over a simpler RO system.

Who should buy it

Buy the U1 if: you want the maximum feature set in a countertop RO — hot water, cold water, hydrogen, alkaline, and app control — and budget is secondary to convenience.

Skip it if: certification breadth is your top priority, you want the lowest price, or you prefer a simpler system with fewer stages to maintain.

Verdict

The most feature-dense countertop RO you can buy, for buyers who want everything in one unit and are willing to pay for it. Just verify the current certification status before you commit.
